Sabudana Khichdi

Sabudana is tapioca pearl.In South Indian we make upma.Upma is usually made of Rava/ sooji  or broken wheat. Sabudana khichdi I think is an option for upma in the North Indian.

Ingredients

Sabudana/ tapioca pearl –2 cups Potato  —   1                           Tomato —   1                                  Peanuts — 2tbsp.                        Green chilli — 3.                          Ginger —1//2 inch cut into small pieces                                              Oil— 3-4 tbsp                             Salt— 3/4tbsp.                             Few curry leaves

Method

Rinse the sabudana very well in water. Then soak the sabudana for 2 hours  After the sabudana has soaked well enough, check if they have become soft. Meanwhile boil the potatoes, peel off the skin and cut it into small pieces.       Heat a kadhi or a pan and pour the oil. Next add the cut ginger and green chilli, saute them.Now add the peanut and      saute them for 2mnts.Next tomato and saute them for a minute. Now add potatoes and cover cook for two minute.Next add the soaked sabudana,add salt and mix everything together and place the lid. Allow it to cook for 5mnts in lower heat. Sabudana khichdi ready.

My morning starts with reading Newspapers when I have morning coffee. When I travel by train or bus for long travel i read Women Era or Filmfare. I used to read  Novel by Perry Mason. Every Saturday I read two chapters Satya Sai Tapovan. I  used to refer to the cook book that how I got inspired to create new dishes.  I also published a book of my recipes

Rice flour upma

Upma is usually with rava/sooji. Here is a recipe where I have used rice flour, usually used to make puttu.

Ingredients

Puttu flour — 1 cup.                 Water. —         3 cups.                       Oil. —-            4 tbsp.    .      

Salt—- 1/2tbsp                 Peanut —     2tsp.                        Green chilli — 2.                      .    Cut ginger — 1/2 tsp.                 Tomato —1,cut into small pieces Few curry leaves

Method

Keep the water boiling. Heat a pan,add the oil.  Next add the cut ginger and green chilli fry them. Now add the peanut and saute them. Next add the tomatoes and strict .Now add the puttu flour and fry them for two minutes.Next add salt and ghee, mix everything together. Lower the heat and add the boiling water, keep string . when the water is observed completely put off the heat. Rice flour is ready.

Tomato Ketchup.   Ingredients: -Tomato–      1 kg.      Sugar-   ½ cup.   Black sal  ½ teaspoon.                 Dry Mango pwd–     ½ teaspoonSalt–                         ½ teaspoon.    Red chilli pwd–         ½ teaspoon.   Vinegar–  2 teaspoons.        Method.                 Take fresh and ripe tomatoes, wash and cut into big chunks.Pressure cooker the tomatoes for 3 whistle. Open and allow to cool.Blend the tomatoes into a thick puree, strain the puree to remove seeds and skin of tomato puree.Heat a wok, add the puree, once it starts boiling add the sugar. Allow it to simmer, stir occasionally. when the puree starts thickening, add the black salt, mango pwd and red chilli pwd.Allow the puree to further reduces, put off the gas and add the vinegar, your ketchup is ready.(How to test if ketchup is ready . take a spoon full of ketchup and drop it in a plate and tilt the plate if you find no water running out of the puree then your ketchup is ready.)Jar the ketchup and store it in the fridge.With the pleasant climate, enjoy homemade ketchup with any snack along with a cup of coffee/ tea. 😊
